Our monthly meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month at different local venues but unfortunately have been cancelled in the light of the coronavirus pandemic. Details will be posted here as soon as meetings are able to resume. Joining NIBCHG ‘Friends‘ supports our ongoing research to preserve the heritage of the villages and you will receive regular email updates. Entry to all monthly meetings is free for ‘ NIBCHG Friends‘; entry to monthly meetings with presentations is £3 for visitors. Meetings are not usually held in August or December.
Our March Meeting: ‘The 80th Commemorations of Dunkirk and Le Paradis’ was cancelled. We hope to arrange it later in the year.
The moving story of this tragic episode was to be told by members of the Le Paradis Memorial Campaign, one of whom is Dennis O’Callaghan whose father was one of the two men who survived the massacre. We have particular interest in the story as this event led to the death of two brothers from Irstead who served in “C” Company Norfolk Regiment: George Yaxley at Le Paradis and Horace Yaxley at Dunkirk.
A campaign has been launched to provide a lasting memorial in Norfolk to the soldiers massacred at Le Paradis. A special website has been set up for information on this and from where donations can be made.
Regular displays on a different aspect of the villages’ history to link with the meeting on the following Wednesday. They are held at the Neatishead Farmers’ Market, on the 2nd Saturday of every month, 9am – 12noon at the New Victory Hall, Neatishead, NR12 8AD. However due to the coronavirus pandemic these are cancelled until further notice.
